This time on our Meet The Artist feature we've interviewed a rapper by the name of Cazwell! Be sure to check him out and keep up to date with all of his projects.


Hello! Thank you for speaking with Jay Swag Entertainment News. Can you please introduce yourself and tel us a little bit about yourself?

?Sure. My name is Cazwell. I'm a writer, DJ, Producer, live performer and you might even consider me a rapper. I've been making and producing music for myself and other artists for almost 10 years now. I got my start in the downtown gay club scene of New York City where I still continue to DJ, perform and throw parties.?

?Let's jump right into it; being homosexual do you find it harder to be successful in this industry?

??I used to. I use to try desperately to be accepted by people in the hip hop music industry when I first started my career in Boston. I had high hopes of being accepted as a gay out artist in the music industry. I finally came to the realization that for the most part people in the music industry, particularly hip hop, have association issues with gay people. Once I accepted that fact and stopped trying hard to be accepted is when things started to happen for me. I think the trick is to try to create your own scene and your own sound and let the right people find out about you and follow you. Could it have been easier being straight? Quite possibly. But there's nothing rewarding about being a closeted artist.?

Fat Joe has recently said that the Gay Mafia will soon control hip-hop. Can you please explain why he said this and what he meant by it?

??I have no idea. I'm laughing right now as I?m reading that. If there is a gay mafia I wanna be down with them. Sounds like some serious Mob Wives shit. LMAO!!!?

?What type of genre do you think your music fits under?

??Ultimately, party/club music. I look up to LMFAO and how they bring humor to the game and cross over a lot of boundaries. I would love to work with them.?

People describe you as a performer that is very "unique and charismatic." Do you agree with this statement? If so why?

?YES. I couldn't agree more! lol. I'm very uncontrived on stage and performing is kinda like an all or nothing thing for me. I pull a lot of my inspirations from cartoons, particularly Bugs Bunny and I think him and Roger from American Dad are the most charismatic personalities to hit the TV screen. When I was trying to be accepted by the world of hip hop I found there wasn't much room to be flamboyant and colorful. Now that I broke free of that thinking process I don't see any rules. And there really shouldn't?be any rules when it comes to art and creating.?

?I read a little bit about your show "Boombox." Tell us a little bit about the show and where we can watch it.

?Sure. Its on Here TV. You can see it on the Pay Per view channel or heretvonline.com . It?s very similar to when MTV used to play videos constantly and there was a VJ that would introduce the videos, talk about the director, the band and interview the artist. I get to do a lot of that. I try to bring attention to videos that people may not otherwise see like Hunx and his Punx, Maluca, Girl in a Coma, CSS, Jessica 6 and countless other talented musicians. I'm really happy with it. I hope we start planning out Season 3 soon.?

?In addition to this you've been able to open up for Lady Gaga. Can you tell us about this experience and how it has affected you?

?I was lucky enough to rap on a remix album of "just dance" for DJ's. When I first met her she wasn't famous yet but she took herself and her art just as seriously as she does today. I performed with her at a party I threw called Family on Avenue C. I remember after she performed her songs everyone just shrugged their shoulders and looked at her like "oh just another club kid with a dance single?oh hum..". It?s crazy to think about that now.?

Where does your inspiration to be a "gay" rapper come from?

?I don't know if I understand the question. I was never inspired to be "gay". I just am.? I started rapping as a teenager mostly because I can?t sing and I really wanted to perform on stage. The more I did it, the better I got at it and writing songs. I know some people may refer to me as ?the gay rapper" but that?s not how I see myself.?

Describe your upcoming album "Hard To Be Fresh."

?For this album I worked with a few talented producers that I meshed really well with. I worked with Faugult & Marina, Count De Money, Jesse Novak (Tugboat) and Chris Bracco to name a few. The various songs contain club anthems, hip hop and some moombahton. All the songs are fun,sexy and dancefloor worthy. I?m very happy with it. It's a strong album.?

?That was the last?question. Again, I want to thank you for taking the time to do the interview. Do you have any last thoughts or comments?

??I have remixes for Unzip Me with Peaches available on iTunes and Beatport very shortly so look out for them and look out for my new "Rice and Beans" video coming soon.?

Gene related to fat preferences in humans found

A preference for fatty foods has a genetic basis, according to researchers, who discovered that people with certain forms of the CD36 gene may like high-fat foods more than those who have other forms of this gene.

The results help explain why some people struggle when placed on a low-fat diet and may one day assist people in selecting diets that are easier for them to follow. The results also may help food developers create new low-fat foods that taste better.

"Fat is universally palatable to humans," said Kathleen Keller, assistant professor of nutritional sciences, Penn State. "Yet we have demonstrated for the first time that people who have particular forms of the CD36 gene tend to like higher fat foods more and may be at greater risk for obesity compared to those who do not have this form of the gene. In animals, CD36 is a necessary gene for the ability to both detect and develop preferences for fat. Our study is one of the first to show this relationship in humans."

Keller and a tem of scientists from Penn State, Columbia University, Cornell University and Rutgers University examined 317 African-American males and females because individuals in this ethnic group are highly vulnerable to obesity and thus are at greatest risk for obesity-related diseases.

The team gave the participants Italian salad dressings prepared with varying amounts of canola oil, which is rich in long-chain fatty acids. The participants were then asked to rate their perceptions of the dressings' oiliness, fat content and creaminess on a scale anchored on the ends with "extremely low" and "extremely high."

The team also gave participants questionnaires aimed at understanding their food preferences. Participants rated how much they liked each food on a scale anchored with "dislike extremely" and "like extremely." Foods included on the questionnaire were associated with poor dietary intake and health outcomes, such as half-and-half, sour cream, mayonnaise, bacon, fried chicken, hot dogs, French fries, cheese, chips, cake, cookies and doughnuts. The researchers collected saliva samples from the participants to determine which forms of CD36 they had. From the saliva samples, they extracted DNA fragments and examined differences in the CD36 gene contained within the fragments.

They found that participants who had the "AA" form of the gene -- present in 21 percent of the population -- rated the salad dressings as creamier than individuals who had other forms of the gene. These individuals reported that the salad dressings were creamier regardless of how much fat was actually in them. The researchers also found that "AA" individuals liked salad dressings, half-and-half, olive oil and other cooking oils more than those who had other forms of the gene. The results are published in a recent issue of the journal Obesity.

"It is possible that the CD36 gene is associated with fat intake and therefore obesity through a mechanism of oral fat perception and preference," said Keller. "In other words, our results suggest that people with certain forms of the CD36 gene may find fat creamier and more enjoyable than others. This may increase their risk for obesity and other health problems."

According to Keller, having certain forms of a gene that help in the perception and enjoyment of fats in foods might once have been an advantage.

"Fats are essential in our diets," she said. "In our evolutionary history, people who were better able to recognize fats in foods were more likely to survive. Such forms of the gene, however, are less useful to us today as most of us no longer have to worry about getting enough fats in our diets."

In fact, she added, having such forms of a gene can be detrimental in today's world of fat-laden convenience foods.

"Our results may help explain why some people have more difficulty adhering to a low-fat diet than other people and why these same people often do better when they adopt high-fat, low-carbohydrate diets such as the Atkins diet," said Keller. "We hope these results will one day help people select diets that are easier for them to follow. We also think the results could help food developers create better tasting low-fat foods that appeal to a broader range of the population."

In the future, the team plans to expand the population they examine to include children.

"By the time we are adults it is very hard for us to change our eating behaviors," said Keller. "So if we can determine which children have forms of the CD36 gene, as well as other genes that are associated with greater liking of fats, we can help them develop healthier eating behaviors at a young age."

Keller also plans to incorporate novel techniques, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), to better understand why certain forms of the CD36 gene are linked to higher fat preferences.

"We plan to scan children while they are tasting high-fat foods and beverages so that we can see how their brains react to fats," she said. "By doing this, we may be able to develop foods that are perceived by the brain as palatable high-fat treats, even though in reality, they are low-fat and healthy."

Creative Ways For Cooking Better Tasting Food - Begin job

When you saute food, try to avoid filling the pan with oil. Too much liquid in the pan will result in steamed, soggy food and not the crispy texture you were trying to achieve by sauteing. Remember, sauteing is always done at low temperatures.

Have you ever felt sorry for throwing away moldy fruits? Is it possible to save at least a portion by getting rid of only the bad part? Never try to salvage fruit that is past its prime. The mold may have grown deeper than can be seen, and eating it may make you quite ill.

By doing this, a year-round supply of fresh fruit can be maintained. Plus, you will be able to have fruits that are not available at certain times of the year.

In recipes that call for milk or water, try substituting more flavorful liquids. When you cook vegetables you can use chicken broth or add beef instead of water. You can substitute buttermilk, yogurt or sour cream in place of the milk. Varying the liquids that are in your recipes is an excellent method of adding nutrition and variety to a dish.

A sharp knife is imperative when preparing food. Dull knives don?t get the job done, but in addition, are actually dangerous. You are more likely to get cut exerting force on a dull knife to slice a vegetable than you are when using a sharp knife.

Think big if you plan to make chicken stock. If you prepare a large pot of stock, it can be frozen and stored for future use. You can use the stock as a base for all kinds of soups or even casseroles. Let your stock cool off and pour it inside Ziploc bags.

Cut cinnamon rolls with ease. Cinnamon rolls can sometimes be difficult to slice before they have been baked. Get a piece of thread to place under the cinnamon roll where you?d like to cut it. Grab the thread on both sides of the roll, wrap it around and pull both ends in opposite direction. Doing this will guarantee you have the best cinnamon roll slices.

Leave the bone in your roast if you are pressed for time. Your meat will cook faster this way because the bone helps to carry the heat straight to the inside of your roaster. Once the roast has finished cooking, it is easy to go in there and remove the bone.

Different varieties of potatoes can have specific uses; you cannot always use one type in lieu of another. Waxy potatoes are best for potato salad and should be avoided when making mashed potatoes or french fries. When your potatoes will be used for these purposes, choose a fluffy variety, such as a Russet.

Be sure to soak your wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes before using. This way, you don?t burn them when you are cooking with them. Use two parallel skewers as opposed to a single skewer to keep food intact.

To give your pasta some added zip, save the water you use to boil the pasta. Set aside approximately one-fourth cup. Add some of it in as you mix the pasta with the sauce. The pasta water contains starch, which will infuse your concoction with the thickness and body you are looking for.

If you cooked with a sauce, save the leftover sauce in an ice cube tray that you can freeze. You will then have it readily available for when you need to make a quick and easy meal. All that needs to be done is to warm it up in a pan. Don?t worry; the sauce will taste delicious after being frozen in an ice cube tray!

You need to use the freshest garlic possible when you are using it in a dish. The general rule is that the fresher garlic is, the sweeter it will taste. Fresh garlic will have firm skin and cloves. In addition, it should not be shriveled or have any bruises.

Purchase quality utensils for your kitchen. Sharp knives are less time consuming, easier, and safer to use. Many cuts and accidents are caused by dull utensils.

You must stay organized so that you don?t burn any food. An organized cooking station is a productive cooking station. Also, organize your refrigerator and pantry to avoid buying unnecessary items that will eventually be thrown out.

There are a variety of ways to prepare fresh oysters. Oysters are often consumed raw with a dash of lemon juice, but can be prepared several different ways. Go ahead and open the oysters and lay them on a pan. Drizzle cream on them and place them in the broiler. Sprinkle some Parmesan cheese and grated pepper, then boil until bubbling. You could try to saute them. Lightly coat the oysters in seasoned flour, and then fry them in melted butter for two minutes, or until they are a light golden brown. You can also bake oysters while in their shells. You want to put them into a casserole dish with a little butter and breadcrumbs on top of each oyster, and put it in a 425 degree oven for about 5 minutes. The oysters should be removed from the oven as the butter starts to bubble; try serving them atop a toasted baguette.

Obama plan to lower mortgage payments could help, but how much? (The Christian Science Monitor)

President Obama fleshed out a new mortgage-relief plan Wednesday, saying the steps he outlines would "help millions of responsible homeowners" and the US economy.

The proposal aims to bring lower monthly mortgage payments to as many borrowers as possible.

A key element: Where past refinancing initiatives have focused especially on Americans with so-called "conforming" loans backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, Mr. Obama is hoping to extend similar relief to loans underwritten by private lenders.

Millions of households hold these loans, and a refinance at today's low interest rates can bring savings of $300 per month for typical families. More than one-third of them have balances larger than the home's current value, which has made traditional refinancing impossible.

With the housing market still depressed, and overall consumer spirits still dampened by America's debt overhang, many economists support the pursuit of new policies to help reduce foreclosures and stabilize home values.

"It would make a difference" for the housing market and economy, says Patrick Newport, an economist at IHS Global Insight, referring to Obama's latest initiative.

But he warns against thinking that the impact of Obama's or other proposals would be enormous. Yes, the housing market and mortgage debts are central to the nation's current struggles, says Mr. Newport, who specializes in housing. But no single policy is a quick or dramatic fix.

The president, in essence, acknowledged that point in a speech Wednesday in Falls Church, Va.

"The truth is, it?s going to take more time than any of us would like for the housing market to fully recover from this crisis," Obama said as he unveiled details of new initiatives. "I?ll be honest ? the programs that we put forward [so far] haven?t worked at the scale that we hoped."

He said his administration's efforts have helped nearly 1 million people refinance in the past two years. But the scale of the problem is massive. The nation now has about 30 million mortgages backed by government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), mainly Fannie or Freddie, Newport says. About 3 million of those are "under water," meaning the loan is now bigger than home value. Another 20 million or more have been underwritten entirely by private lenders. Some 35 percent of those, 7 million or more, are under water.

Obama's argument is that as more families refinance at a low interest rate, incidences of default and foreclosure will diminish, helping to stabilize home values and restore consumer confidence. The families who benefit will also get extra cash in their pockets each month, which they can use to buy other things in the economy or to pay down debt.

The president's latest plan includes several major elements:

Allowing more borrowers with GSE-insured loans to refinance through Fannie and Freddie. Obama outlined several moves toward "streamlined refinancing."

Creating a new refinance program for non-GSE borrowers, through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Costs of the program would be covered by a new Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee on banks. This program, and the fee on banks, would require congressional approval.

As with Obama's existing "refi" program, the new one for non-GSE loans is designed to allow many underwater borrowers to benefit. Participants must live in the home and be current on the mortgage. Availability would be more limited if a loan is deeply underwater (loan more than 140 percent of home value) or if borrower is unemployed.

A new initiative will aim to turn more foreclosed homes into rental properties. That's better, Obama said, than having lots of vacant homes in a neighborhood.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is moving to make the mortgage application process simpler and more transparent. Obama held up a single sheet of paper designed to replace what are currently overlapping and complex disclosures.

One obvious challenge to implementing Obama's new housing blueprint is that Republicans control the House of Representatives. They aren't keen to create new mortgage-relief programs or what amounts to a new tax on banks ? especially for a plan that results in only a modest boost.

Even if the Obama plans could be implemented in their entirety, new foreclosures coming into the pipeline from a large pool of already-delinquent borrowers would not be eligible for the Obama relief, for example.  And if the refi boom helped 3 million households each save about $3,000 a year, the boost to the economy would still be quite small ? on the order of 0.1 percent of gross domestic product, according to an estimate by Capital Economics, a research firm in Toronto.

Obama's housing pitch represents part of a broader "blueprint" for the US economy, which he laid out in his State of the Union address in January. The blueprint is partly a set of policy proposals and partly a campaign platform, designed to show voters the president trying all possible ways to lift a weak economy.

Home prices have continued to edge generally downward even after the recession ended, although the number of delinquent loans has been gradually declining over the past year. Housing analysts say its possible home prices will stabilize by later this year.

Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac updates to version 2.0, adds OS update support

Sony Ericsson is updating its "Bridge" application for Mac users, adding the ability to apply OS updates to Xperia smartphones over USB. This functionality has been available in SE's PC Companion tool for Windows for some time, but until now Mac users have had to wait for updates to roll out over the air.

If you're rocking the Xperia/Mac combo, you can grab the current version 1.2 of the SE Bridge app from the source link, and you'll be notified when the new version is available.
